However, my admiration for the man himself has greatly diminished since reading the news about the ongoing investigation into his alleged rape of a young lady at his hideaway island retreat in the Bahamas.
David Copperfield has built a huge reputation and amassed enormous wealth performing his wonderful magical illusions and has been greatly admired as a great magician and ambassador for the art of magic.
However, recent events and some of the alleged flaws in his character, previously unknown to the public, will almost certainly have a detrimental impact on his reputation and without doubt will tarnish the world of magic to a degree.
This is very sad, as magic has been one of the purest and cleanest all round form of family entertainment, untainted by foul language, drink, drugs and general unseemly behaviour that has unfortunately crept into other areas of the entertainment world.
It looks as though the Copperfield magic has gone and I'm sure everyone in the world of magic and entertainment will be disillusioned and disappointed in the disgrace this "magician" has not only brought upon himself, but also to the whole world of magic and entertainment.
Even if the allegations prove to be completely unfounded, the whole episode will surely leave a stain.
It's a great pity that someone so supposedly talented and intelligent and so expert at courting publicity, would put himself in any sort of situation that would be open to such allegations.
Maybe David Copperfield's magic tricks have caught up with him.
Let's hope that it will not have any real effect upon the otherwise wonderful world of magic.
